Gut Save Side Effects and Safety
Last updated: October 6, 2026
Gut Save uses low doses of food-derived ingredients and contains no stimulants, so most healthy adults are unlikely to have problems with it. There are, however, two allergens in the formula and a few medication interactions to be aware of.
What the label says
Do not exceed the recommended dose. Pregnant or nursing mothers, children under 18 and individuals with a known medical condition should consult a physician before use. Keep out of reach of children, do not use if the safety seal is damaged or missing, and store in a cool, dry place. The label declares milk as an allergen.
Allergens
- Milk: from the colostrum powder. People with a cow's milk allergy should not take it. The lactose content is tiny, but those who are highly sensitive should take note.
- Fish: the collagen is made from wild-caught fish. Avoid it if you have a fish allergy.
- Seaweed: Irish sea moss is a seaweed and a natural source of iodine.
Possible side effects
| Ingredient | What you might notice | How likely |
|---|---|---|
| Probiotic cultures | Extra gas, mild bloating or a change in stool pattern | Fairly common in the first week, usually settles |
| Black cumin seed extract | Mild stomach upset or nausea | Occasional |
| Collagen and colostrum | A feeling of fullness or mild heartburn | Uncommon at this dose |
| Any ingredient | Rash, itching or swelling (allergic reaction) | Rare; stop and seek medical help |
Taking the capsule with a full glass of water, as directed, helps. If discomfort lasts longer than two weeks, stop taking it and speak to a doctor.
Medication notes
- Blood thinners: black cumin seed may slow clotting. Ask your doctor first if you take warfarin, clopidogrel or similar medicines, and stop two weeks before planned surgery.
- Diabetes and blood-pressure medicine: black cumin seed and cinnamon may slightly lower blood sugar and blood pressure. The amounts here are small, but your doctor should know.
- Immunosuppressants: do not take probiotics or black cumin seed without your specialist's agreement.
- Antibiotics: they can reduce probiotic bacteria. Ask your pharmacist about spacing the doses.
- Thyroid medicine: mention the sea moss, since it contains iodine.
Who should not take it without medical advice
- People with a weakened immune system, those having chemotherapy, and transplant recipients.
- Anyone who is critically ill or has had recent abdominal surgery.
- People with a diagnosed bowel disease such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
- Pregnant or nursing women and anyone under 18.
When to see a doctor instead
Supplements are for everyday comfort, not for warning signs. Blood in the stool, black stools, unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting, fever, night-time symptoms or a change in bowel habits lasting more than three to four weeks all need a medical check.
